What we cover

There is a real difference between being sold a reverse mortgage and being shown how one works. This class is the second thing. Chad walks through the mechanics and the math, and where a reverse mortgage fits alongside the rest of your retirement — including the cases where it does not fit at all.

That difference compounds. A reverse mortgage structured for the next two years and one structured for the next twenty can look nearly identical at closing and end up nowhere near the same place. Advice that is wrong here tends to surface years later, when it is expensive to undo. Chad’s interest is in the long version.

    Who this is for

    • Homeowners 55 and older who want to understand the product before anyone asks them for a document.
    • Adult children helping a parent think it through. Bring them — they usually have the sharpest questions.
    • Financial advisors, CPAs, and estate attorneys whose clients keep asking about this.
    • Anyone who was told twenty years ago that reverse mortgages are a scam and has never checked whether that is still true.

    What this is not

    • There is no meal. Free food attracts people who came for the food.
    • There is no application, no credit pull, and nothing to sign in the room.
    • You will not be asked to bring a mortgage statement, a bank statement, or a tax return.
    • If a reverse mortgage is wrong for you, the class should make that clear too. Several people leave each session having decided against it.

      Who teaches it

      Chad G. Peck has been in the mortgage business since 2003 and has worked almost exclusively on reverse mortgages since 2008. He has owned and run Reverse Freedom Mortgage since 2015.

      That timeline is the reason the class is worth ninety minutes. He was writing these loans before the 2013 and 2015 reforms, so when he explains what changed, it comes from having worked through it rather than having read about it.

      Over the past twelve months he has originated more FHA-insured reverse mortgages than any other loan officer in Utah — first of 133, by HUD's own endorsement data. He teaches every class himself.

      The teaching is the part he likes. You will leave knowing more about your options than when you walked in, whichever one you end up choosing. He has also talked plenty of people out of a reverse mortgage along the way. That is part of the job too.
